Gerald Lee Ahlquist, 69, of Rockford passed away, Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Rockford Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born January 31, 1941 in Rockford, the son of John O Ahlquist and Lorraine Henschel. He worked as a machinist at Nafco and Seward Screw Products. He was a NASCAR and Chicago Bears fan, drove race cars, enjoyed family poker games, playing the lottery, fishing, and especially being with his family. Gerald married Carol S. Wilken October 22, 1960 in Rockford. Survivors include his wife Carol, daughters, Tami Johnson, Traci (Rich) Bohn, Teresa (Ed) Papineau all of Machesney Park, grandchildren, Jason, Cory, Lindsey, Tiffany, Kirsten, Zack, Kelsey and Jessica; great-grandchildren Jaylin, Tanner, Cole, Chase, and special companion and best friend Maggie, brothers, Thomas (Lana) and Jack (Grace) Ahlquist. He was preceded in death by parents, grandparents, and son-in-law Rick Dimond. Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine, Machesney Park, 61115. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday, October 1, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be given to the family at www.sunsetfhmemgardens.com.
