Obituary

Geraldine Garofalo, 88, died peacefully at Danbury Hospital with her family by her side the evening of November 26, 2013. Gerry was born May 3, 1925 in Bronx, NY. She graduated from Danbury High School and Danbury Normal School, now known as Western Connecticut State University. She was an elementary school teacher starting her career in a one-room schoolhouse in Sandy Hook, CT and teaching for many years at Park Avenue School and Hayestown Avenue Schools in Danbury. Geraldine Garofalo, 88, died peacefully at Danbury Hospital with her family by her side the evening of November 26, 2013.

Gerry was born May 3, 1925 in Bronx, NY. She graduated from Danbury High School and Danbury Normal School, now known as Western Connecticut State University. She was an elementary school teacher starting her career in a one-room schoolhouse in Sandy Hook, CT and teaching for many years at Park Avenue School and Hayestown Avenue Schools in Danbury.

She married Harold Garofalo on June 29, 1946 in St. James Church. They were married for 53 years and raised four children.

After they retired they enjoyed many wonderful and fun filled winters at their condo in Florida where they enjoyed good times with good friends. Gerry was an avid golfer and was past president of the Wamego Women's Golf Club. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge, reading and crossword puzzles. She loved sports, especially football, watching the NY Giants and she never missed an Army-Navy football game.

Gerry was predeceased by her husband in 1999 and is survived by her children: Sally, Joyce and her husband Jim, Richard and his wife Lynn, Nancy and her husband Gary. She was cherished by her seven grandchildren, Meredith and her husband Joey, Melanie, Christopher, Laura and her husband Nick, Gregory, Scott and Jeffrey and three great grandchildren, Caitlin, Grace and Nicholas.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her many caregivers, the staff at Danbury Hospital and Pope John Paul Convalescent Center.

Calling hours are from 4 to 7 on Monday, December 2nd at Green Funeral Home 57 Main Street Danbury. The funeral will be on Tuesday, December 3rd at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Church, 25 West Street, Danbury, with burial to follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury
