Gerard Joseph Cormier, age 84, of Danvers, died Sunday, June 3, 2012 after a period of failing health. "Jerry", as he was known to family and friends was born in Lynn, son of the late Albert and Suzanne Cormier. Growing up, Jerry resided in both Lynn and Peabody. Jerry honorably and bravely served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War where he was wounded during the Battle of the Chosen Reservoir. Jerry honorably and bravely served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War where he was wounded during the Battle of the Chosen Reservoir. After many years of employment, Jerry retired from the MBTA as a Surveyor in 1991.
Jerry was a generous and loving husband, father and grandfather who was also a man of faith. He used to coach his children's hockey and little league teams and spent much of his free time helping his children with homework projects. In later years he was as much a friend to his children as he was a father.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Jean (Bookman) Cormier, children, Donald Cormier and his wife, Judith of E. Wakefield, NH, Susan Sheldon and husband Mark of Danvers and Glenn Cormier and his wife Maryann of Everett. Jerry was the beloved grandfather of Keith and Kyle Cormier, Katelyn Sheldon, Andrew Cormier and Alex and Theo Bookman. He is also survived by his siblings, Leo Cormier and Marie Lillydale of Lynn and Leonard Cormier of Cormier's Cove, New Brunswick. In addition to his parents, Jerry was also predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Dorothy (Wescott) Cormier and his siblings, Alva, Albertene, Anett, and Adrien.
Jerry's Funeral will be held from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn on Wednesday at 9AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 17 Grove St., Lynnfield at 10AM. Burial to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 5-8PM.
