GERTRUDE SNELL Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 7, 2017.

She met and wed Dewey H. Snell, Jr. on November 25, 1961 in Irvington, New Jersey. Their union of love and commitment produced 3 daughters. Having a family brought new challenges and opportunities, despite the challenges Gertrude leaned on her unwavering faith. She began working for New Jersey Bell in 1961 as an Information Operator. She went on to work for the U.S. Post Office for 16 years, and later for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). In 1970, she attended Rutgers University in Newark, NJ where she studied Secretarial Science. Later in 1976 she attended the Federal Trade Center in Norman, OK where she received her Certificate in Supervisory and Management. Gertrude continued to seek opportunities to learn, most recently she received her Certificate in Computer Courses from Atlanta Technical College in Atlanta, GA.
Gertrude retired from the United States Postal Service. She worked as a private duty nurse for the Schnieder family of Califon, NJ until 1996 when she retired from nursing and moved to Georgia. Upon relocating, Gertrude decided she wanted to be amongst people. She returned to the workforce as security for TSA serving Delta Airlines.
Throughout her life, she was a devout missionary and later was ordained as an Elder by both the Church of God in Christ, Georgia General Fellowship, and the Body of Christ Ministries International. She served for many years until her untimely death. Gertrude was held in very high regards throughout her community and even served as the president of the Missionary Board.
To know Gertrude was to walk away with a story, whether it was a first time meeting you or numerous encounters. She enjoyed fashion and all it had to offer. She was known for her exquisite taste in clothing. She was known to rip the runway in whatever setting she found herself. She enjoyed gifting people clothing and accessories. She took great pride in seeing others happy. It was her mission to help all those who crossed her path.
In her retirement, she picked up the art of pottery and created a small collection of exquisite pieces. She was exceptionally a natural when working with this medium of art. She enjoyed vacationing with family and friends seeing the sights. She spearheaded Mother Snell's Kitchen, a ministry which fed the less fortunate and homeless. She was affectionately known as Mother Snell and led many to Christ. She was always available for everyone, no matter the time of day or night.
When the sun rose on Monday, August 28, 2017, Gertrude was relieved of her earthly duties, making her transition to her heavenly estate.
She leaves to cherish her everlasting memory: wife of an Admiral, Gayle Snell-Baek (David) of Canyon Country, CA, Elder Lucia Snell of Wayne, MI and Minister Claudia Montfort (Elger) of Ellenwood, GA. In following Gertrude's traditions of faith and family, she would want a special acknowledgement to the ten siblings of her girls: Bridget Massey (Maurice) of Albany, NY, Felicia Campbell (Rodrick) of Detroit, MI, Dewey Snell, III of Dothan, AL, Myron Snell (Yonecia) of Detroit, MI, Monique Murphy of Albany, NY, Eric Snell, Jamal Snell, Mary Snell all of Detroit, MI, Ashley Snell of Houston, TX, and Jason Snell of Detroit, MI

The Body of Christ at of The Spoken Word Christian Ministries will truly miss Elder Snell. Her legacy to us are her love, words of wisdom, prophetic insight, prayers and spiritual understanding of God's Word. We give thanks to God for placing her in our mist and we know that her soul is now bound up in the bundle of life that is in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her family were truly the apple of her eye. May the Holy Spirit comfort you during this time. Sincerely, Pastors Claude and Clarice Drennon, Atlanta Georgia

Pastor's Yilmaz & Martha Arslan

I Thank GOD, we got to know Mother Snell, she was a blessing, to me and my husband! She and I talked two or three times a week, we touched and agreed about things we were praying about! She was a Spiritual Mother to us and the ministry! Whenever she were feeling down, I would sing, 'This is the DAY The LORD HAS MADE, we will rejoice and be glad in it! She would laugh and start signing to me. We would have a great time, singing and laughing! She would say I love you, and you know, we loved her too! We'll see you soon MOTHER! IN JESUS NAME!
