Gertrude Abshire, 89, of Port Arthur, was called home Sunday, March 31, 2013. Gertrude was born September 24, 1923 in Mosinee, Wisconsin to John and Helen Douville. Gertrude was an avid church member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, school and president of the Altar Society. She also volunteered at St. Mary's hospital for years. Ms. Abshire is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, John R. Abshire; three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her son, John Abshire of Nederland; two grandchildren, Jeremy Abshire and wife Connie of California, Julian Abshire and wife Lauren of Beaumont; two great-grandchildren and many...

Gertrude was born September 24, 1923 in Mosinee, Wisconsin to John and Helen Douville.
Gertrude was an avid church member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, school and president of the Altar Society. She also volunteered at St. Mary's hospital for years.
Ms. Abshire is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, John R. Abshire; three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her son, John Abshire of Nederland; two grandchildren, Jeremy Abshire and wife Connie of California, Julian Abshire and wife Lauren of Beaumont; two great-grandchildren and many more nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., with a Vigil to begin at 7 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 5, 2013 at 11 a.m., at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Port Arthur. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Catherine's Catholic Church in honor of Ms. Gertrude Abshire.
