Gertrude Armitage Obituary

Gertrude M. Armitage, 80 of Stroudsburg, passed away Thursday evening June 6, 2013 at the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.

Born in Stroudsburg on February 28, 1933 she was a daughter to the late Luther and Margaret (Smith) Dennis Resh. Gertrude graduated from Stroudsburg High School, class of 1951 and was employed by the former Birchwood Resort, of East Stroudsburg as a Bookkeeper for 29 years before retiring in 1995.

Gertrude was an active member of the Stroudsburg Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) , Main Street, Stroudsburg where she enjoyed reading to the children during church services on Saturdays. Also she was an active volunteer of the SDA community Service Center. She loved the outdoors, enjoyed reading, and gardening.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents was her husband Frank Armitage who passed away in 1993 and a sister Cheryl Scheetz.

Surviving are sons, Corby J. Armitage and is wife Kim of TN; Troy S. Armitage of East Stroudsburg; two grandchildren, Derick Armitage and his wife Jessica of TN; Travis Armitage and his wife Marie of Hawaii; sister, Crystal Smith of Greenville, SC; several nieces and nephews and friends she loved dearly.

Grave side funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 11, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Bryant Street, Stroudsburg with Pastor Livingston Aaron officiating. Interment will follow.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Seventh Day Adventist: at West Main St. Stroudsburg, PA 18360, or Pocono Medical Center at 206 East Brown Street East Stroudsburg, PA 18301, or to Animal welfare Society of Monroe (AWSOM): P.O. Box 13 Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

I had the pleasure of working with Gertie at Birchwood in the late 70's She was a wonderful boss and friend. I learned so much from here.
