Gertrude K. Burt October 7, 1906 – March 15, 2011 Mrs. Gertrude K. Burt passed away gently on March 15, 2011 at the age of 104 years. Left to mourn are her son Glen (Phyllis), grandson Jordan (Anna), sister-in-law Kathryn Yaeck and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Burt was predeceased by her husband J. Edgar Burt in 1974 and by her three siblings Arthur Yaeck, Beatrice Driscoll and Pearl Bolger. "Our Gert" was born in Walkerton, Ontario on October 7, 1906 and moved with her parents Louis and Louisa Yaeck to Kerrobert, Saskatchewan in 1912. Mrs. Gertrude K. Burt passed away gently on March 15, 2011 at the age of 104 years. Left to mourn are her son Glen (Phyllis), grandson Jordan (Anna), sister-in-law Kathryn Yaeck and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Burt was predeceased by her husband J. Edgar Burt in 1974 and by her three siblings Arthur Yaeck, Beatrice Driscoll and Pearl Bolger. "Our Gert" was born in Walkerton, Ontario on October 7, 1906 and moved with her parents Louis and Louisa Yaeck to Kerrobert, Saskatchewan in 1912. She received most of her education in Kerrobert and at the age of 17 attended Normal School in Saskatoon. She then taught at a one room school near Kerrobert for a number of years after which she returned to Normal School to complete her teaching certificate requirements. Gert came to Sovereign, Saskatchewan in 1926 as a teacher and enjoyed her students and friends in the area. On July 3, 1930 she married J. Edgar Burt of Sovereign and became a permanent resident of the town contributing her many talents to the church and community. She enjoyed curling, skating, playing the piano and the organ. Gert greatly enjoyed her involvement in the 4-H programs, CGIT and the choir and was an active member of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the Nile. She traveled with friends to Europe, Australia, cruised the Mediterranean, visited both Canadian coasts and wintered for many years in Mesa, Arizona. Gert was renowned for her kindness to all and the dignity with which she conducted her life. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, March 18, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Rosetown United Church with Reverend Jo-Ann Hills officiating. Memorial Donations may be made to the Sovereign Hyland Cemetery, c/o Lenora Anton, P.O. Box 13, Sovereign, SK, S0L 3A0 or to the Wheatbelt Centennial Lodge Activity Fund, P.O. Box 250, Rosetown, SK, S0L 2V0. Clements Rosetown Funeral Home entrusted with the arrangements.
