Charlotte - Mrs. Gertrude Parker Yount, formerly of Newton, NC passed away at Brookdale Cotswold in Charlotte NC in the early morning hours of June 7, 2015.
Mrs. Yount was born Gertrude Parker on August 7, 1920 in Sampson County, NC, to the late Sophronia Honeycutt Parker and James Andrew Parker. Mrs. Yount was preceded in death by her husband, Forest Leon Yount and two brothers – Harrell Cooper Parker (Betty) and James Robert Parker of Florida.
Gertrude is survived by her son, Jim Yount (Susan); grandson, Andrew Yount of Matthews, NC, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Greene (Justin) of Charlotte, NC, two sisters – Ann Parker Warren of Southport, NC and Mary Jon Parker of Clinton, NC; and one brother – Charles Thomas (Tom) Parker (Joyce) of Raleigh, NC.
Mrs. Yount was a graduate of East Carolina Teacher's College (East Carolina University) and was employed by Newton-Conover School System as an Elementary School Educator for thirty-four years prior to her retirement. Mrs. Yount was an active member at New Jerusalem Lutheran in Hickory where she was a member of The Senior Friends. She was an avid gardener, reader, crafter and homemaker. She was devoted to her family.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 15, 2015 from 1:45 PM until 2:45 PM at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Yount's life will be held at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Hickory, Monday, June 15, 2015 at 3:00 PM with the Reverend Randall Cauble officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 2120 Startown Rd, Hickory, NC 28602.
The family will also receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM on Wednesday June 17th and funeral service will held at 2:00 PM at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home Chapel, Clinton, NC. Internment will immediately follow at Clinton Cemetery where Gertrude will be laid to rest beside her husband, Forest Yount.
