Gilbert Shopland Allwine, 93, a resident of McGaheysville passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013.
He was born on February 2, 1920 in Washington, DC, and was the son of the late Henry F. and Florence Shopland Allwine, and step-mother, Lona Allwine.
Gilbert was a resident of Seabrook, MD until moving to McGaheysville in 1987. He graduated from Washington, DC schools and had been employed with Western Electric for over 50 years. He was a member of the McGaheysville and Landover Hills, MD fire departments and was of the Lutheran faith. During WWII he served in the US Navy.
His wife, Anna Grace Figard Allwine, preceded him in death on September 10, 2001.
He is survived by three children, Ronald F. Allwine and wife, Darlene, of Penn Laird, Donna J. Ganjei and husband, Michael, of Potomac, MD, and Cheryl L. McGrory and husband, James, of McGaheysville; and three grandchildren, Kelly, Justin and Jonathan Ganjei.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Allwine and step-sister, Camille.
Services will be held Monday, February 18, 2013 at 1:00 pm, at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, MD.
