Gilbert Bryan (G.B.) Andrews, Jr., 88, passed away at 5:30am Saturday, March 12, 2011 at a local hospital. Born May 10, 1922 to Gilbert Andrews, Sr. and Frances LeBlanc Andrews in northern Allen Parish, he has been a resident of DeQuincy since1949. Mr. Andrews graduated from Fairview High School in 1940 and from S.L.I., now University of LA at Lafayette, in 1943 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics education. Gilbert Bryan (G.B.) Andrews, Jr., 88, passed away at 5:30am Saturday, March 12, 2011 at a local hospital.

Born May 10, 1922 to Gilbert Andrews, Sr. and Frances LeBlanc Andrews
in northern Allen Parish, he has been a resident of DeQuincy since1949. Mr. Andrews graduated from Fairview High School in 1940 and from S.L.I., now University of LA at Lafayette, in 1943 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics education. He was a member of First Baptist of DeQuincy.

Following graduation, he went directly to the army where he completed basic training at Camp Fanin, TX. From there he went to Fordham University in New York City where he received training for the engineering corps. As WWII in Europe escalated, Mr. Andrews was sent to the European theater for active duty. He served in Germany, France, Holland, and Belgium until the end of the war.

Upon returning to civilian life, he worked at Calcasieu Marine National Bank in Jennings where he met Nelda Sue Houston. They married June 15, 1947. In 1949 the couple moved to DeQuincy where they were the owners of a Western Auto Associate Store until their retirement in 1984. After retiring Mr. & Mrs. Andrews established Andrews Crew Service furnishing transportation for the train crews of Missouri Pacific Railroad.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sue Andrews, son, Dale Andrews, daughter and son-in-law Anita and Jim Slagle, granddaughters Leslie Abdalla and Jamie Gremillion and husband Adam, one sister Billie Sue Manuel, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Andrews was preceded in death by his infant son, David, his parents, sister Bobbie Jean Roy and two brothers Wade Andrews and Clint Andrews.

His funeral will be Monday, March 14 at 10:00 AM at Hixson Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Bro. Rob Walls of DeQuincy First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Blackjack Cemetery at
Hopewell Methodist Church in Allen Parish. Visitation for Mr. Andrews will be at the funeral home Sunday, March 13 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM and from 8:00 AM Monday until the time of the funeral. Masonic Rites will be rendered at 6:00 PM Sunday.

The family would like to extend appreciation to the staffs of Grand Cove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Cornerstone Hospital for their excellent care. Donations may be made to DeQuincy First Baptist Church Building Fund.
