Gladys Augusta Fonville, 90, departed this life on July 1, 2017, at Blue Ridge Manor Nursing Facility.
She was born August 31, 1926 in Henry County, to the late Eugene and Mattie Hairston Copening.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Lynwood and Larry Copening.
She is survived by five sisters, Lillie (Matthew) Akridge, Nancy (William) Manns and Paulette Copening, all of Bassett, VA., Shirley Price of Aurora, CO., and Laverne Dodson of Concord, N. C.; two brothers, George (Patricia) Copening of Bassett, VA., and Carl (Sharon) Copening of Temple Hill, Maryland.
Gladys was a member of the Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she sang in the Senior Choir until her health failed. She was a licensed beautician and was known as one of the best cooks at the South Bassett Café'.
Homegoing Services will be Thursday 2 pm at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Drive, Bassett, with Rev. William C. Randolph, officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Burial to follow in Carver Memorial Gardens.
