Gladys Edna Creel Armour, of Birmingham and Athens, Georgia, died on Monday, May 28, 2012. She was born in Warrior, Alabama, on December 21, 1919, the daughter of Pearl and James Creel. She attended the University of Alabama and was graduated in 1942 with a Bachelors degree in education. She was married to the late Captain Bernard Murray Armour of New York. Mrs. Armour taught in the Jefferson County School System for over 35 years. Her last position was as a sixth grade teacher at Bluff Park Elementary School. Gladys Edna Creel Armour, of Birmingham and Athens, Georgia, died on Monday, May 28, 2012. She was born in Warrior, Alabama, on December 21, 1919, the daughter of Pearl and James Creel.

She attended the University of Alabama and was graduated in 1942 with a Bachelors degree in education. She was married to the late Captain Bernard Murray Armour of New York.

Mrs. Armour taught in the Jefferson County School System for over 35 years. Her last position was as a sixth grade teacher at Bluff Park Elementary School. She loved teaching and always referred to her students as "my children".

She was a faithful member of Bluff Park United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She was a member of Sunset Rock DAR, UDC, and Colonial Dames assuming not only the role of a member, but also an officer. Mrs. Armour was an active member of the Shades Crest Literary Club, Hoover Historical Society, United Federation of Women's Clubs, and the Freedoms Foundation. Mrs. Armour is remembered for these affiliations as well as her love of watching Alabama football games. Her friends and family remember her for her intellect, sense of humor, infectious smile, generous spirit, culinary talents, flower gardening, and for being a gracious hostess who enjoyed entertaining.

Mrs. Armour was pre-deceased by her husband, parents, five sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth (Libbie) Armour Levine Raschen and husband David B. Raschen, of Decatur, Alabama; and Beverly Armour Searcy and husband Charles Searcy, of Athens, Georgia; grandchildren, Eve Borkenhagen and husband Keith Borkenhagen, of Stone Mountain, Georgia; Brett Levine and wife Mindi Shapiro Levine of San Franciso; Brecca Searcy Pope and husband Andrew Pope of Thomasville, Georgia; and Erin Searcy of Mexico Beach, Florida; great-grandchildren Caroline and Claire Pope, of Thomasville, Georgia.

Visitation at Ridout Valley Chapel, Oxmoor Road, Homewood will be Friday, June 1, 2012, 5:00-7:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 2, 2012, 10:00-11:00 a.m. The funeral will follow at Ridout Valley Chapel on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., with internment at New Bethel Cemetery in Warrior, Alabama at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Armour's family requests that remembrances be made to one of the organizations in which she was a member and loved so dearly.
