CLEMMONS- Gladys Phelps Banner, 93, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Hickory Grove AME Zion Church on Harper Road in Clemmons. Entombment will be in Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons.
Mrs. Banner married John S. Banner Sr. in 1946 in Clemmons. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed arts and crafts, baking, and singing. She was an active community volunteer, very active in her church, Agricultural Extension Service, 4H Club Leader, and the planning committee for Bermuda Run.
Surviving are her daughter, Brenda Banner of Clemmons; one grandson, Lane Banner of Clemmons; close niece, Sandra Bray of Clemmons; two close nephews, Raymond (Victoria) Phelps, and Albert Phelps all of Clemmons; sister-in-law, Dora Anthony of Pfafftown; a brother-in-law, George (Elizabeth) Banner of Winston-Salem; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John S. Banner Sr., her parents, Hood and Estella Phelps, one son, John Smith Banner Jr., three brothers, Hood Phelps Jr., Warren Robert Phelps, John Albert Phelps, and her sisters, Ella Mae Phelps, Annie Imes, and Thelma Archie.
Memorials may be made to the Life Center of Davidson County.
Visitation will be one half hour prior to the service at the church.
