Gladys Smith Clements, 92, of Lynchburg, VA passed away on August 20, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was the wife of the late Luther D. Clements. She was predeceased by brothers Edward and Gordon Smith and sisters Cora Franklin, Hassie Brooks, Lillie Fitzgerald, Vera Clowdis, Elna Stanley, and Ruth Trent. She is survived by her sister Nora Tweedy. She is also survived by her daughter, Linda C. May.
She was the beloved Gran-Gran to her grandsons, Geoffrey S. May and wife Kristina, G. Randall May and wife Susan, and Anthony W. May and fiancé Lois Crist and her great-grandchildren Daniel W. May, G. Stuart May, Jr., A. Shawn May, Sarah D. May, G. Randall May II, Jacob A. May, Chandler A. Gladys was a faithful member of Fairview Christian Church for 80 years and a member of the Loyal Sons and Daughters Class. She was retired from General Electric. Her passion was her family and her flowers. Each spring would find her on hands and knees in her yard planting her petunias, marigolds and impatiens, creating a showplace on her street in the summer. She was an excellent cook, enjoying many requests from family and friends for her macaroni and cheese and her candied yams.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. John E Williams and Stacy Tomlin and to Centra Hospice and their dedicated team of professionals. Special thanks are extended to her two angels, Alice Powell, LPN and Amy Coleman, CNA, for their loving care and devotion.

Family visitation will be held at Whitten Funeral Home, Timberlake Chapel on Saturday, August 23 from 12 to 1 PM with the funeral service at 1 with the Rev. Curtis Wheeler, Pastor Kristina May and Rev. Glenn Clements officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
