HAMILTON: Glenn. May 12, 1923 – June 19, 2012. With great sadness we mark the passing of Glenn Hamilton, formerly of Ottawa, on Tuesday June 19th, 2012, in Kelowna, BC following a brief illness. Beloved husband of Margaret for almost sixty years; Dad to Aurora Hamilton of Calgary, Meri Lynn Bush (Paul) of Ottawa, and Bruce Hamilton of Ottawa; Grandpa to Scott Bush (Lina) of East Rutherford, NJ, USA, Alex Bush (Emma Coates) of Ottawa, and Andrew and Michael Hamilton of Ottawa; Uncle to Wendy Gromniski (Tony), David Duckett (Sheila), and Glynis Husson (Sergio) of Calgary, he was predeceased by his father Alvin, his mother Lillian, and his sister Shirley Duckett of Calgary; Honourary Dad to Mary and Keith Campbell of Ottawa. Born in Loverna, Sask, Glenn was a WWII veteran serving as an air gunner in the RCAF after completing his training at BCATP, High River, Alberta and Gimli, Manitoba. He continued to be active in the Royal Canadian Legion and RCAF Association in Ottawa, Ontario and Kelowna, BC. After WWII, Glenn worked as an X-Ray Technician in Vancouver's Shaughnessy Hospital before embarking on a thirty year career in the Department of Health and Welfare, Radiation Protection Division with the Federal Public Service in Ottawa. He was always ready to volunteer when needed, serving as statistician for two bowling leagues, producing a community newsletter, and driving the neighbourhood kids to Brownies, sporting events, and other athletic activities. Upon his retirement in 1986, Glenn returned to the sunny Okanagan and Kelowna where he and Margaret had first met and eventually married in 1952. An avid and competitive golfer, Glenn was a member of Gallagher's Canyon and Ponderosa Golf Clubs, where he achieved the ultimate goals of a hole-in-one and golfing his age twice. He organized and competed in golf tournaments throughout the Okanagan Valley for over twenty years. He was also a member of the Gallagher's Canyon Chapter 4642 of the International Order of Old Bastards. He loved to golf, read, and play board games with his children and grandchildren, teaching them the finer points of poker – yet always succeeding in taking the pots. And he hated yard work. Heartfelt thanks are extended to Dr. Mackle and all the caring staff of Emergency, 2EAST, and 5B at Kelowna General Hospital and at the Central Okanogan Hospice House. Family will receive guests at First Memorial Funeral Services, 1211 Sutherland Ave, Kelowna Saturday, June 23rd, 2012 from 10:30AM to 11:30AM with Memorial Service to follow in the chapel at 12 noon, Rev. Roger Cooper officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations are to be made to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation or the Central Okanagan Hospice Association (COHA). Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.mem.com, clicking on stories and typing in Glenn Hamilton. Always remember: "90 cents a pound, Margaret" and "See Canada first." Arrangements entrusted with First Memorial Funeral Services, Kelowna, B.C. 250-762-2299
