Glenn Wolfe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 17, 2013.

Glenn Edward Wolfe, 91, of New Plymouth, died Tuesday October 15, 2013 of natural causes. He was born November 24, 1921 in Nyssa, Oregon to James Edward Wolfe and Katherine Mae Youngberg. Glenn attended elementary and high school in Nyssa. He also attended Ontario Vocational School specializing in welding.

In 1942 he relocated to Tacoma, Washington where he was employed by Sea Tac Ship Building Co. as a welder. While in Washington he met and married Gladys Randolph and together they raised 3 sons. Glenn served in the army in the European Theatre of Operations as a tank transporter during WWII.

After the war Glenn and Gladys moved to Parma, Idaho where Glenn worked in logging operations. They moved to New Plymouth, Idaho in 1950, where Glenn was employed by Tuttle Blacksmith. While employed there he built his first trenching machine and then started his own excavation company. Glenn Wolfe Excavation grew from there over the next 50 years. His reputation as an honest and fair businessman with area farmers and contractors was unquestioned; he was respected by all who knew him. He didn't work for a living, but lived for his work.

His first wife, Gladys, died in 1975 and a short time later Glenn met and married Betty Ireland. They continued to live in New Plymouth. Betty passed away in December of 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents James and Katherine Wolfe, his sisters Ruth Klinkenberg and Pauline Sager, and a grandson Dustin Wolfe.

He is survived by 3 sons, James Edward (Joy), Jerrie Wayne (Patricia), and Dennis Duane (Shirley) Wolfe. He is also survived by step children Susan Gynild, Mike Ireland, Linda Weaver (Jack) and Jim Ireland (Tina). He left behind 10 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild.

A viewing will be held at the First Baptist Church, located at 204 E. Elm St. NW in New Plymouth from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Monday October 21, 2013. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Park View Cemetery, New Plymouth. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, New Plymouth. I am so thankful that I and most of my siblings were able to stop and visit Uncle Glenn in August. He lit up while we were there. He loved his two sisters, Aunt Ruth and mom, Pauline and his brother-in-laws, and got to tell us how much our dad, Earl meant to him. It was so nice and we had a great visit. Who'd have known he wouldnt be around less then two months later. I will miss my Uncle Glenn and his stories.

Glen was another one of my best friends and a mentor and a teacher. He taught me a lot and I had more respect for him as a person than most. He will be forever missed. Jim, Dennis, Jerry and all, you had a wonderful father, God bless him and all of you.

I've known the family for some years. Glenn was a master at woodworking and loved to go on spring rides. I was fortunate enough to be invited on one such ride by the OX ranch. Great memories...

Sorry for your loss,
Your friends Dennis and Carla Casper
