Dear Peggy and Family,
It has come as quite a shock to discover that my friend of 74 years has passed away. Her birthday card this year was returned and my daughter searched online to discover this sad news.
When I arrived in New Orleans as a new student at Mather School of Nursing, Gloria was assigned as my roommate. It was great to have an upperclassman to help me. We became good friends and through the years we have shared many events, thoughts, and both good and difficult times.
We rode the Ferry, and ate chilled watermelon from the street vendors. We shared many times in the dorm and dining hall and chapel as well as through the hospital halls as students.
It was my joy to sing at her brother Jules' wedding and we shared the sorrow when he gave the ultimate sacrifice at Iwo Jima.
We were happy to have Gloria with Edna and Alma to visit in our home and my daughter accompanied them to see The Great Mouse at DisneyWorld in Orlando!
I know this is a great loss for your family, because Gloria spoke of you often with genuine love and caring in her voice when we spoke on the phone and in her letters from the brick house on Louis XIV Street.
She was generous to my family as well, treating a group of us to a Pixie And Bill's Steak Dinner in Clemson, SC, on one of the last trips she made with her friend Jackie. There were other times as well - she gave my mother a Mixer as a Hostess Gift in the early years of our friendship on a visit to my home, and that mixer was used until my mother gave up her housekeeping days in the late 1990's.
So many memories, such a loss for your family and for me and my family as well.
Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers as you cope with the new sadness but also with the realization that Heaven's Angels have welcomed Gloria home and we will meet again.
