Gloria Ann McGowan Mrs. McGowan, 74, of Matthews, NC, died Monday, June 4, 2012 at her residence. She was born August 6, 1937 in Pittsburgh, PA, the only child of Walter Suwaniec and Sophie Varoga Suwaniec. Gloria was a faithful member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church where she served as a passionate volunteer with the sewing guild and the disABILITY Ministry. She was also a volunteer with Olde Providence Elementary School. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 9, 2012 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Mrs. McGowan, 74, of Matthews, NC, died Monday, June 4, 2012 at her residence.
She was born August 6, 1937 in Pittsburgh, PA, the only child of Walter Suwaniec and Sophie Varoga Suwaniec. Gloria was a faithful member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church where she served as a passionate volunteer with the sewing guild and the disABILITY Ministry. She was also a volunteer with Olde Providence Elementary School.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 9, 2012 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. A private inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. The family will greet friends immediately following the inurnment at the church.
Mrs. McGowan is survived by her four children: James R. McGowan and wife, Cheryl of Charlotte, NC; Janice Dean and husband, Tom of Middlebury, CT; Kristen A. McGowan of Charlotte; and Mary Jo Shepherd and husband, David of Charlotte, NC; 7 grandchildren: Morgan and Michael McGowan; Joseph and Katherine Dean; Sophie, Jackson, and Nathaniel Shepherd and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. McGowan was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, James Patrick McGowan in 2007.
