Gregory Jenik Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 28, 2015.

Gregory Alan Jenik was born on July 12, 1963, to George and Jen (Lechman) Jenik. Greg grew up on the family farm at Sedgwick, Colorado, and worked there until he went to college. He graduated from Revere High School in 1981 and started at Northeastern Junior College that fall. After obtaining his Associates of Arts degree, he enrolled at Colorado State University in Fort Collins and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1985. While there, he was the Division Chairman of the Colorado State Marketing Team. Greg received his Masters of International Management at Thunderbird School of Global Management at Phoenix, Arizona, in 1986 with honors. He was an Ombudsman and a Student Government Representative there. His degree had an emphasis in relations with China and learned how to speak and write the language. He presently was working on getting his PhD in Management for Leadership and Organizational Change through Walden University. He had a 4.0 GPA and had all of the class work completed and was starting to work on his dissertation. In addition, he had completed the following: the AeA/Stanford Executive Institute Program through Stanford University, the Executive Development Program through the University of Southern California, the Leadership/Language Development Program through the State University of New York, and held the Series 79 and Series 63 Licenses through the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and Securities Exchange Commission. Greg has also taught for the University of Phoenix in Denver, Colorado.

Greg's first job was with AT&T Network Systems in New Jersey where he was Sales and Business Development Director for Global Commercial Markets, including Asia Pacific, Latin America, Mexico, Venezuela, Rio De Janeiro, and Brazil. In 1996 when AT&T divided, he had moved back to the Denver area and became the Director of Global Markets for Lucent Technologies. He then worked as President of Voyant Technologies until 2001 in International Sales before becoming the Executive Director for AeA (formerly known as American Electronics Association). The next five years Greg was the COO and President of TAEUS International Corporation in Colorado Springs, which provided patent and portfolio engineering analysis. Presently Greg was the CEO and President of a company that provided business management consulting and private equity investments. He was also one of three Managing Directors for an investment bank whose primary focus was on private/institutional investment and mergers/acquisitions in energy, oil and gas development, technology, industrial, manufacturing, and real estate sectors.

In addition, Greg served as Treasurer at his church for several terms and was part of the building expansion committee.

The love of Greg's life were his twin boys, Grant and Aiden. They did everything together. Some of their favorite activities were doing karate together, running with Aiden, going to wrestling meets with Grant, going to the mountains and coming down to Sterling and Julesburg to spend time with family.

Greg loved adventures and challenges.

As part of his education in International Business he learned to speak Mandarin Chinese and during the course of his career did business in over 30 different countries. During one stay in Brazil he unknowingly got in a taxi whose driver was involved in a government coup and Greg ended up bailing out as it sped down the interstate with his briefcase and papers flying.

He has climbed all of Colorado's 14ers and almost reached the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro. He was close to the summit, but couldn't finish the climb because he personally carried a man back down the mountain that had been stricken with altitude sickness and would have died.
He took flying lessons and enjoyed the thrill of skydiving. He loved hiking, skiing, scuba diving, and hunting, being especially thrilled with his bear hunting experience in Canada and pheasant hunting around Sedgwick.

Anyone who knew Greg knew that he didn't sit still for long, was always on his phone or computer working or contacting friends, and had a passion for learning.

He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his sons, Grant and Aiden; parents, George and Jen Jenik; sisters Connie (Rich) Loos and Kim (Ed) Orth; Nieces Kristin, Kari, Kandie, Bailey, Jamie, and Carly; and great-nephews Owen, Alexander, Deklan, and Nathan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Grant and Aiden Jenik Educational Fund and forwarded to Connie Loos at 720 Chestnut Street, Julesburg, CO 80737.

Greg and I worked together for five years while I was at TAEUS. I always remember him as the guy that would do anything for you if you needed something. I have a very severe lung condition and had to retire from working and one day Greg was talking to me about my situation and out of the blue said "When I'm done with my lungs you can have them". Most people that would say this would be joking - Greg wasn't. Greg you will be missed and the world is worse today than it was before you left. God must have a wonderful plan for you to take you at such a young age. God speed

We were in the same graduating class in high school. He was a good man who lived a fulfilling life. We are all better for having known him.

Greg was my wife Cheri's cousin. I only met Greg a few times but his father George and I are good friends, and I know George has suffered a great loss. After having read Greg's obituary I can only say that his family should be so very proud of him. Even though his life was cut short, he lived a full and productive life and I for one am amazed at what he had accomplished. Obviously he was a good man and we will all miss him.

We are sorry to hear of Greg`s passing. I haven`t seen him for a long time but remember he was the same age of one of my children and am sure they knew him from their own school days. It seems he led a very interesting life. I am sure you are all proud of Greg.

Jen, George, Connie and Kim, I know your hearts are breaking with the pain of loss. I want to share with you my memory of attempting to "teach" Greg during youth group at St Anthony's Catholic Church is Juleburge. Let's just say Greg was a lively and inquisitive student. I thank him to this day as a reason for my NOT becoming a teacher. Memories of Greg always bring a smile to me. My thought and prayers are with you all.

I am very sorry to hear of Greg's sudden death. I had the privilege of knowing Greg while he attended NJC and CSU. He was a kind and compassionate man. He had many talents and was very humble. He was articulate and I knew that he would succeed in every endeavor. I was always impressed with his work ethic and the manner in which he completed tasks. He was a perfectionist and paid attention to detail. He was a funny person and made me smile. He was a person of ambition and drive. I have no doubt that he was a devoted father who relished every moment with his sons. I have fond memories of Greg and remember that he was so fun and full of life. Greg enriched my life, and I will miss him greatly.

I am a classmate of Greg's from Revere High School. I had the opportunity to attend school with him from K-12. Greg was always kind to everyone. I never heard a negative word, from him about anyone. He was always supportive of other's different interest and he was involved in many school activities. He was chosen as most likely to succeed by his classmates along with myself. From what I have heard and witnessed he far exceeded that nomination. He was fun and easy to be around. He was very talented in playing the drums and during the basketball games he would often do solos to entertain the fans. I always enjoyed listening to him as we had started out playing drums together in middle school. Greg did very well in school and often scored in the top two in anything he did. But he wasn't one to brag about it. Instead he would simply go on to the next thing. He always had a smile and a kind word. He was a very good man and an excellent friend. He had many interests that helped him to maintain friendships with those who were much older and younger than he was. During our senior year we went to Prom together as "friends". I am so appreciative of the friendship we had. I will miss him but I am glad for the many wonderful memories I have of him.
