Gregory A. "Greg" Oest, 53, of Springfield, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in West Point, NY. February 8, 1959 the son of Alvin M. and Shirley (Session) Oest. He graduated from Havana High School in 1978. Greg married Joleen Mason at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Havana, IL June 15, 1979 and she survives. Gregory A. "Greg" Oest, 53, of Springfield, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born in West Point, NY. February 8, 1959 the son of Alvin M. and Shirley (Session) Oest. He graduated from Havana High School in 1978.
Greg married Joleen Mason at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Havana, IL June 15, 1979 and she survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Tonya (husband Eric) Hill of Taylorville, IL., his 3 grandchildren; Payton, Reese, and Taylor Hill, his parents, Alvin and Shirley Oest of Havana, IL., his brother, Craig (wife Karen) Oest of Fairbury, IL, a niece, Emma Oest, his father-in-law, Gary (Onie) Mason of Lewiston, IL, sister&brother-in-law Tina and Rodney Boggs, and brother-in-law Michael Mason all of Havana, IL.
His grandparents and his mother-in-law Susan Poler preceded him in death.
Greg began his career in agriculture and then lawn care with True Green. He worked in the mail room of the State Journal Register and currently he was a driver with First Student Transportation Service.
He was an avid reader, loved the outdoors and especially camping with his daughter and her family. He loved the game of basketball. He was a Fighting Illini Fan, and shared his love of the sport as a coach of the 5th and 6th grade boy's basketball team for Trinity Lutheran School. He also enjoyed baseball and was a devoted St. Louis Cardinal fan. He was a participant of the Transplant Olympics over the years.
He was a member Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Springfield.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. where visitation will be on Thursday May 17, 2012 from 4-7 pm and where funeral services will be held on Friday May 18, 2012 at 11:00 am. Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Radtke will officiate. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Havana, IL.
