Greta Marie Kruger passed away peacefully August 4th 2017. Born Greta Beck November 20th 1931 in Webster, South Dakota. She was the only child of Gertrude and Jessner C Beck. She grew up in Grangeville, Idaho and attended the University of Idaho where she was active in her Delta Gamma sorority. She was a member and sang as well as played piano with the Vandaleers, the colleges choir. She graduated with a BA in music.
Greta married Hartly Kruger in 1953 and had 3 children Kai, Don and Jan. Her son Don preceded her in death in 2011. She has 5 grandchildren, Katie, Mitch, Ben, Paul and Pam. Greta chose to become sober in 1982. That journey led her to many good friends through AA as well as her work as a chemical dependency counselor at Residence XII in Kirkland, Washington. In 2009 she received the Ann Nichols award for her dedication and commitment for helping women and their families in treatment. She was very proud of her sobriety. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to play cards, loved to watch sports and loved jazz music. She especially loved her kids and grandkids.
We will be celebrating Greta on Saturday September 30th at 1:00pm at The Northshore Senior Center - Health and Wellness Center in Bothell. (Across the street from The Senior Center) 10212 E Riverside Drive, Bothell 98011

My sympathies to Greta's family during the loss of this wonderful woman. She and I worked together for years at Residence XII, a treatment center in Kirkland, Washington. She was dedicated to addiction recovery and mentored hundreds of women and their families over her many years of work and dedication. She was passionate about recovery, the importance of spirituality, sports and cards! She also had a wonderful ability to laugh at herself and find joy in the small things in life. Her wisdom and gentle spirit will be missed but not forgotten.

I always loved her wicked sense of humor. She and Chuck Anderson would start on a theme and crack themselves up! While I never witnessed it first hand, allegedly she made a wonderful Mother Superior from "The Sound of Music" singing "Climb Every Mountain". I am blessed to have absolutely wonderful memories of her. She enriched my life.

My Dear Friend Greta always made everyone's heart happy. She loved to laugh, hug and tell stories. Many a time we played cards or went to 5th Avenue performances, Jazz concerts with Deedles or simply hung out and LAUGHED! I'll always keep a warm place in my heart for such a dear kind Friend. My sincere compassion for Jan and Kai and their families. Fly with the Angels, dear Greta.
