Gretchen Baragar Hurter of Newcastle, WA passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the age of 81. She was born in Seattle, WA on September 30, 1930. Gretchen was a homemaker raising 7children over the years, and trained later in life to be a legal assistant. She is survived by her husband, Charles W. Hurter, 6 children; Janice (Michael) Emig, Gary (Jennifer) Reightley, Bryan (Christine) Reightley, Patricia Rogers, Catherine (Robert) Kostelecky, and Elizabeth (Russell) Thompson, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Gretchen was a homemaker raising 7children over the years, and trained later in life to be a legal assistant. She is survived by her husband, Charles W. She was preceded in death by her son Scott Reightley. Gretchen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed. In retirement she and her husband Chuck participated in presenting WA State Parks & US Power Squadron Boating Safety Classes for Kids throughout the state of WA. She was a long time member of Meydenbauer Bay and Newport Yacht Clubs holding many titles and awards. A graveside service will be held on Friday April 27 at 12:30 pm at Sunset Hills Memorial Park, Bellevue. A reception celebrating her life will immediately follow from 3:30-7:00 pm at Newport Yacht Club in Bellevue. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to US Power Squadron Education Fund or Aegis of Issaquah Employee Fund.
