Obituary

Grover Oran Reat, retired Colonel United States Air Force of Brownwood, Texas, formerly of San Angelo, TX passed away February 17, 2014 at his residence. Col. Reat was born September 26, 1918 to Ada and Travis Reat in Dime Box, Texas. He attended school in Marlin, TX and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin 1939. He married Jane Watkins in Llano, TX in 1942, who preceded him in death March 16, 2001. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law; Jane Ann and James Lunn of Sandia Park, NM, Judy and Larry Ehrke of Brownwood, TX, and Jackie and Clarke Erskine of Wimberly, TX. Col. Reat was born September 26, 1918 to Ada and Travis Reat in Dime Box, Texas. He attended school in Marlin, TX and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin 1939.
He married Jane Watkins in Llano, TX in 1942, who preceded him in death March 16, 2001. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law; Jane Ann and James Lunn of Sandia Park, NM, Judy and Larry Ehrke of Brownwood, TX, and Jackie and Clarke Erskine of Wimberly, TX. Also surviving him are grandchildren; Jennifer Abernathy of China Spring, TX, Brenda Leuellen of Hutto, TX, Eric McNeese of Brownwood, TX and Brian Erskine of Austin, TX. As well as 5 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Col. Reat served in the Pacific Theater during World World II as an Army Air Corps navigator. He was recalled in the USAF during the Korean conflict and served in the Security Service the rest of his 33 years of service which was spent throughout the world. He ended his career as commander of Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, TX from 1969- 1971.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
