Guillermo R. Lizarraga, fondly known as Momo, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 6, 2013 after a brief battle with pneumonia. He was born September 13, 1920 in Tucson, Arizona to Santos G. Lizarraga and Julia Lemas de Lizarraga. During WWII, Momo served his country by helping with the war effort. Unable to fight for his country because of hearing loss, he left his beloved University of Texas at Austin to pursue a degree in Aeronautical Engineering . Upon graduation, he was hired at Consolidated in Ft. Worth, Texas, where he designed parts for the B-24 Bomber. After the war, he took his wife and daughter to live in Juarez where...
Guillermo R. Lizarraga, fondly known as Momo, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 6, 2013 after a brief battle with pneumonia.
He was born September 13, 1920 in Tucson, Arizona to Santos G. Lizarraga and Julia Lemas de Lizarraga.

During WWII, Momo served his country by helping with the war effort. Unable to fight for his country because of hearing loss, he left his beloved University of Texas at Austin to pursue a degree in Aeronautical Engineering . Upon graduation, he was hired at Consolidated in Ft. Worth, Texas, where he designed parts for the B-24 Bomber. After the war, he took his wife and daughter to live in Juarez where he joined his father as prominent businessmen and entrepreneurs.

He had a rich and wonderful life. He belonged to many civic organizations including the Juarez Rotary Club, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis Club and the Juarez Country Club, where he was an avid golfer and enjoyed the camaraderie of his many friends. He also helped found the Juarez School for the Blind.

In his later years, he and Sophie returned to El Paso to be near his daughter, Irma and her family. He will be remembered for his legacy of love, compassion and a warm sense of humor. He was always willing to help and serve. He was dearly loved and will be forever missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Sophia Miranda Lizarraga, his parents, his brother, Servando and his sister, Lygia Gleichauf.

He is survived by his daughter, Irma Yvonne Lizarraga Minjares (Orlando), his grandsons, Orlando A. (Paola) and Guillermo I. (Veronica) Minjares. Also survived by his two beautiful great-grandchildren, Diego and Isabella Minjares, his sister, Reva Diaz, and his cousin, Alex Lizarraga.

Pallbearers will be Orlando A. Minjares, Guillermo Ivan Minjares, Fred Diaz, Judge Marcos Lizarraga, Luis Alvarez, Juan Bosco Alvarez, and Richard Provencio. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Reynolds and Alex Lizarraga.

Momo will lie in state on Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Martin East with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Raphael Catholic Parish. Interment will immediately follow at Evergreen East Cemetery, 12400 Montana. A reception for family and friends will be held at Momo's house, 1824 Andalucia off of Trawood in front of Vista Hills Country Club.
