Guillermo "Memo" Poblano, of El Paso, Texas – beloved husband and true best friend of Velia (Rosales) Poblano, passed away at Providence Memorial Hospital on July 12th from mesothelioma cancer at the age of 77. He left us courageously, and peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved on. Many people that loved him admired his commitment, passion, dedication and strong convictions which were apparent through his beautiful marriage of 59 years, his lovely family, his hard work ethic, and his continuous sacrifice and support he gave for others. He was ALWAYS there. Memo was born in 1937 and grew up in the proud and unified area known as Buena Vista, raised by his mother Josefa Soto Poblano+. He went on to work at ASARCO and retired as a powerhouse operator after 36 years. He also worked at Orkin and as a security officer for 15 years respectfully until early 2014. Besides his wife Velia, Guillermo is survived by his children; Jose Alfredo, Ramon (Ida), Richard, Karen (Eddie) and Gilbert (Toni); his 13 grandchildren 9 great grandchildren and a great, great granddaughter. He is also survived by his brother Eusebio Poblano+, his sisters Asencion P. Soto and Margarita Poblano and his mother-in-law Aurora S. Rosales. An incredibly loving man with a big heart, he believed and lived for his family and could always be seen cheering on his children and grandchildren at their extracurricular activities in one of his signature baseball caps and camera or video camera in hand. Memo was an avid sports fan that loved the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, and San Antonio Spurs. During his life, Memo enjoyed gardening, listening to music, coin-collecting, and playing golf (P.A.G.A.). He also liked to travel and made it a tradition to take his family camping to Ruidoso every summer as well as road trips across Texas to visit historical landmarks and theme parks. His favorite times were always shared with his family and friends at his home/backyard celebrating holidays, birthdays, and Sunday cook-outs. Guillermo was a devoted Catholic and was a parishioner of San Antonio De Padua Catholic Church. Memo loved people and took the idiom, "don't be a stranger" to heart, talking to everyone he could meet and making them his friend once he flashed them his smile. Pallbearers: Joey Poblano, Michael Poblano, Stevie Poblano, Jacob Madrid, David Poblano and Eduard Ryan Verdin; Honorary Pallbearers: Tyler Smith and Gibby Poblano. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina with Vigil Service at 7:00 pm. In Memory of Mr. Poblano to his Family:
"AND GOD SAID"
I said,"God, I hurt" And God said "I know"
I said, "God, I cry a lot" And God said,"That is why I gave you tears"
I said, "God, I am so depressed"
And God said, "That is why I gave you loved ones"
I said, "God, my loved one died".
And God said, "So did mine".
I said, "God, it is such a loss"
And God said, I saw mine nailed to a cross"
I said, "God, but your loved one lives".
And God said, "So does yours"
I said, "God, where are they now"
And God said, "Mine is on my right and yours is in the light".
I said, "God, it hurts"
And God said, "I know".
Your loved one will live in your hearts forever; just treasure the memories he left behind.

He will definitely be missed. He Always made us laugh in our conversations, especially when he referred to Velia as the "Sheriff". He reminded me of my own father which I lost many years ago. He will without a doubt be looking over all of you. I was told that he mentioned that Cheetah "Benny" Rosales was coming to take him, I guess Cheetah needed a Golf buddy.
God Bless you all,
Mario, Susie and Family

I had the honor and privilege of knowing "Willie" at work. As an EPWU vendor, I would see him every month guarding the gate to the Water Treatment Plant with honor and friendship. I know how devoted he was to his Wife and to his family as he spoke of them often. I will miss seeing his friendly smile every month. To his family, I say remember all the good times and be strong for each other.
