Gustave “Gus” Saladino, Jr., age 90, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley Vallee Saladino; his sons, Michael Saladino (the late Denise Saladino) and Stephen Saladino (Josie); his three grandchildren, Anthony “Tony” Saladino, Stephanie Saladino Colomb (Mark) and Christine Saladino; numerous nieces and nephews; and soon-to-be daughter-in-law Deborah Triulzi.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gustave Saladino, Sr. and Teresa Beninato Saladino; and his siblings, Louis Saladino, Josephine Saladino St. Pierre and Nicholas Saladino.
Gus volunteered in 1943 for the U.S. Navy, intending to be a cook, but was instead trained as an Aircraft Radio Operator, serving his country during WWII. After leaving the Navy, he began his career with Eastern Airlines, retiring after 35 years. He enjoyed cooking, traveling, camping, operating his Ham Radio but most of all spending time with his family and friends. Gus was truly a people person, and will deeply be missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 105 Bonnabel Blvd., in Metairie on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation at church will begin at 12:00 noon until service time. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
