Guy Stanley "Stan" Caldwell, III, 89, died April 1, 2015, after a brief illness. He was born on June 25, 1925, in Amarillo, Texas. He grew up in Hot Springs, Arkansas and Toledo, Ohio. He had lived in Tallahassee since 1959. Stan was a retired residential building contractor. He built quality homes in Tallahassee and followed up with homeowners for years after the sale. He was once an avid golfer at Killearn Country Club. Since 1977, he had been a part-time resident of Sky Valley, GA, where he played golf and bridge. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arkansas in 1953, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Area on the USS Crosley during World War II.
He is survived by his son, Allen Thorne Caldwell (and wife Diana Weaks Caldwell) of Tallahassee; his devoted daughter, Mary Stanley Caldwell Lee (and her husband Robert "Bob" Lee) of Tallahassee and formerly part time residents of Sky Valley, GA, and his three grandchildren, Allie Caldwell, Lilly Caldwell and Collins Caldwell, all of Tallahassee, FL.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Juanita Thorne Caldwell in 2005, his daughter, Courtney Anne Caldwell in 2007, and his mother, Irene Allen Durr in 1999.
A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the University of Arkansas Foundation, General Scholarship Fund, 1002 West Maple Fayetteville, AR, 72701 or to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Boulevard, Tallahassee, FL, 32308.
