Gwendolyn Vettraino Fowler of Apopka, Florida, was born on April 17, 1919 and passed away March 7, 2014.

Gwen was the oldest of three children, born to Herbert and Rebecca Beckham. She was born in Highland Park, Illinois. She lived in many different states as she was growing up, as hr father was a salesman.

She married young to Coy Carlyle and had four children; Wayne Gary, Lavonne and Judy. They were married from 1935 thru 1941. Gwen found herself alone and unable to care for four young children when she met a wonderful man, Arthur Vettraino. They were wed October 30, 1943. Along came Tom, Polly, Jan and their grandson Brian who they adopted. A good man and provider, together they eventually raised eight children.

She lived in Detroit, Michigan when Jehovah's Witnesses came to her door. She loved what she learned. She was baptized in 1951. She loved to share the Kingdom hope of living on a paradise earth every chance she had. As a result, there are five generations of her own children in the truth today. They enjoyed having a book study in their home for many, many years.
She loved to cook and was a cook in the Michigan School System. Teachers from other schools would come for lunch when she had her homemade rolls on the menu Her desserts were delicious. Wherever she lived she made friends easily and was very hospitable. (While working as a head cook at a high school, Gloria Zioli was assigned as 2nd cook. She was a fiery Italian Catholic who was a challenge to work with. But through Kindness and perseverance, she and her family became worshippers of Jehovah.) Very frugal, conscientious and no stranger to hard work, she canned bushels of fruits and vegetables and worked out of the home to help raise the children. How she loved to garden, her specialty was prize winning Nelson and Perkins roses.

She moved to Florida with Arthur Vettraino, when retired in 1977. She quickly made this next home in Merritt Island a jungle of fruit trees and flowers. When Arthur passed away she married Robert Fowler in April 1987. He moved her to Tennessee to be close to family. Robert passed in September 2000 in Tennessee. She was happy to return to her beloved Florida and joined her youngest daughter, Jan Swisher. Once again she used her green thumb to make a paradise garden complete with palm and fruit trees.

She is survived by her sons and daughters, Gary Vettraino of Allenton, Michigan, Lavonne Topolewski of Pinconning, Michigan, Thomas (Gertrude) Vettraino of Livingston, Tennessee, Pauline (Dan ) Stolt of Livingston, Tennessee, Jan Swisher of Apopka, Florida and Brian Vettraino in Michigan. She has a huge family of 35 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by daughter , Judith Vettraino, her great-grandson Troy Vettraino; and her eldest son Wayne Verttraino. She was also preceded in death by her husbands Arthur Vettraino and Robert Fowler; son in law Frank Topolewski; daughters in law Sylvia Vettraino, Connie Vettraino and Barbara Vettraino; brother and sister in law Ken and Donna Beckham; and sister and brother in law June and Walt Karras.

The Memorial Service will be delivered on March 23, 2014 at 3:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Livingston, Tennessee. The services will be officiated by Leon Whidby.

Arrangements are being handled by Brevard Memorial Funeral Home, Cocoa, Florida.
