Obituary

Harold E. Altherr, age 87, of Napoleon, Ohio, passed away Friday morning at the Napoleon Lutheran Home. Born September 22, 1925 in Jackson, Ohio, the son of Cecil V. and Zella (Montgomery) Altherr. On April 21, 1950 he married Marjorie Hamilton, in the Chapel in the Garden, Angola, Indiana, and she survives of Napoleon. Harold was a freight agent for the DT&I Railroad for 41 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Napoleon, where he served as church board president, Sunday School superintendent and teacher of the adult classes. Harold E. Altherr, age 87, of Napoleon, Ohio, passed away Friday morning at the Napoleon Lutheran Home.
Born September 22, 1925 in Jackson, Ohio, the son of Cecil V. and Zella (Montgomery) Altherr. On April 21, 1950 he married Marjorie Hamilton, in the Chapel in the Garden, Angola, Indiana, and she survives of Napoleon.
Harold was a freight agent for the DT&I Railroad for 41 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Napoleon, where he served as church board president, Sunday School superintendent and teacher of the adult classes. He was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran. He received a bachelor degree from Denison University. He was a member of the American Legion Post 300 Napoleon, Ohio, the VFW Post 239, Sebring, Florida, a former member of the Lions and Kiwanis Club, both of Napoleon. In his retirement, he was a substitute teacher for NWOEC, Wauseon, Ohio and Henry County Schools.
Surviving also are two sons Kevin (Kathy) Altherr, Napoleon, Ohio, Eric (Terri) Altherr, Reynoldsburg, Ohio; two daughters Deborah (Alan) Graver, Oregon, Ohio, Candace Altherr, South Euclid, Ohio; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers John, Raymond, Frederick and Cecil Altherr and five sisters Esther Altherr, Phyllis Altherr, Geraldine Morgan, Rosalind Dickman and Mary Rogers.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Christ United Methodist Church, Rev. Russell Shaeffer, officiating. Entombment will be made in Riverview Memory Gardens, rural Defiance County, where military honors will be accorded by the joint veterans posts of Napoleon.
Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or to the Senior Independence Hospice.
