Biography

ROLAND, DR. HALL CARMACK – age 88, of Knox-ville, TN passed away on May 3, 2014. He was born in Hen-derson, TN on July 8, 1925. Preceded in death by his par-ents, Grace P. and C.P. Roland; brother Grady Paul Roland and sister-in-law Ada Marie Roland, three grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Sur-vived by June Clifton Roland, his loving wife of 65 years; brother Dr. Charles P. (Allie Lee) Roland; sister Margerette Josephine (Jo) Roland Riddick; and brother Isaac N. (June) Roland. He is survived by four married children Edward (Martha) Roland, David (Ingrid) Roland, Janice (Dickie) Reasonover, and Lester (Fiona) Roland. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. He dearly loved his family and church. He deeply enjoyed his teaching career and students. He lived a varied and interesting life. He received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, an M.S. from Abilene Christian University in Religious Education, an M.S. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in Mechanical Engi-neering, and a Doctorate in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knox-ville. He was a member of America’s greatest generation and served as a commissioned Naval Officer in both WWII and the Korean War. He was a full professor in the Nuclear Engi-neering Department at the Uni-versity of Tennessee, Knoxville. The family will receive friends at West End Church of Christ, 8301 East Walker Springs Lane, Knoxville, TN 37923, on Tuesday, May 6, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with funer-al service to immediately fol-low, Wayne Miller officiating. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted in the Highland Memorial Cemetery, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919 on Wednesday, May 7 at 10:30 a.m. Please sign the online register for Dr. Roland at www.highlandmemorialknoxville.com.
