Harlan Randall Wright, 78, of New Harmony, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Deaconess Hospital. He was born July 19, 1938, in Evansville, IN to the late Vernon and Marvella (Reuter) Wright.
He enjoyed horseback riding and camping, and was always the camp cook. In his youth, Harlan farmed, rode motorcycles and liked to bowl. Later in life, he was an auto mechanic and owned his own repair shop. Harlan was a foster father to 16 children, having raised several to adulthood.
Harlan was preceded in death by his second wife, Bessie Wright; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Becky Wright; children, Janice (Rick) Tedford, Jeff (Tara) Wright, Leslie (Jeff) Bauer, Tammy (Bobby) Thompson, Paula Schweizer and Tommy McDowell; 17 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Patty Mayville, Linda Woolsey and Jeannie Douthitt.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Daryl George, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery in Richland, IN. Friends may visit Saturday from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
