Harlen Stueve Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 6, 2017.

Harlen Herbert Stueve was born on August 4, 1938, to Henry and Ella Stueve. As the sixteenth of eighteen children, Harlen likely knew little about privacy, but much about love on the Stueve farm in Frohna, Missouri. According to his Eighth Grade yearbook, his favorite subject was Agriculture; his favorite school activity was playing second base on the softball team; and his ambition was to be a farmer.

It wasn't farming that pulled Harlen away from Frohna, but the Army and Fort Lewis Washington. It was here that he fought the Battle of Puget Sound in the Great War of Washington (also known as training exercises). After leaving the Army, Harlen joined his family in Monrovia, California to work at Alta Dena Dairy.

Through work at the Dairy and church in Monrovia, Harlen was destined to meet his partner in life, Darlene Stillman. They married on October 3, 1964, and began a journey that lasted almost 53 years. Together they raised their children, Carla, Michael, Wendy, Amy and Daniel to value faith and hard work. Whether playing catch in the backyard or teaching a newly permitted teenager how to drive, Harlen displayed patience beyond measure. Known for never shying away from hard work, Harlen started his own business in 1991 where he worked until his retirement in 2012. Quick with a joke, and an expectation that your word was as good as a written agreement, Harlen led by example and few (but valuable) words.

Harlen was called home by his Heavenly Father on September 1, 2017, surrounded by his family. We imagine that the line to greet him was long and led by his daughter, Wendy and grandson, Christian. He will be missed by many, including his wife, kids and grandkids, who all know we will see again.
