Harold Turek Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 13, 2017.

Harold Eric Turek, 58, of Chester, NY, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2017. Harold-or "H" as he was affectionately known by family-is remembered fondly for his warmth, empathy, and boundless curiosity. Although born with an intellectual disability, he had a love for life, an infectious laugh, and a smile that always illuminated his face, and his big personality lit up a room. In the years that he walked this earth, Harold blessed everyone he met with true, honest love and wonderment of the people and places that graced his life.
A child at heart, "H" could not wait to go to parties and vacations at the beach, and Christmas was always his favorite time of year. So many have said that he made a huge impression on them and that they loved his kindness and his booming laugh. Harold was truly an original personality. No matter where he traveled, someone always came up to say they knew him and regale his family with stories about him. A natural athlete, he loved to compete in the Special Olympics, and won many medals in his time. Harold was best known for innate curiosity. He always had lots of questions, and above all his replies and actions showed the true honest emotions in his heart. His family was blessed to have him on this earth-no one had more innocence. "H" now sleeps with the angels.
Mr. Turek was preceded in death by his father Frank Turek of Chester, NY. He is survived by his mother Nelva Turek (Roman) of Chester, NY and his siblings Karen Johnson (Turek) of Salisbury Mills, NY, Karl Turek of Center Valley, PA, and Stephen Turek of Danville, CA, as well as his many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 16 at David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North St, Washingtonville, NY, and a Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 17 at St. Columba Church, 27 High St, Chester, NY. Interment is at St. Columba Cemetery in Chester, NY.
