Harold T. Berlin Sr., 64, Reading, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at home with his family. He was the husband of Linda S. Berlin. Born on Nov. 29, 1946, at McGee Hospital, Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Dr. Joseph and Bernice E. (Buck) Berlin of Pittsburgh. Harold was a graduate of Baldwin High School and a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a bachelor of fine arts in applied music in 1971 and a master's of fine arts in music education in 1972. Harold T. Berlin Sr., 64, Reading, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at home with his family. He was the husband of Linda S. Berlin.
Born on Nov. 29, 1946, at McGee Hospital, Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Dr. Joseph and Bernice E. (Buck) Berlin of Pittsburgh.

Harold was a graduate of Baldwin High School and a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a bachelor of fine arts in applied music in 1971 and a master's of fine arts in music education in 1972. He taught middle school music in Pittsburgh from 1971 to 1974.

Harold lived in Linz, Austria, from 1974 to 1977, where he taught English through the Fulbright program and was a contract translator for the Austrian Voest Steel Company. He also played trumpet in the Austrian Big Band, "Mustangs."

After returning to the United States, he served as head of the Alternative Learning Program at J.P. McCaskey High School. During this time, he earned his master of education in counselor education from Millersville University. He became a guidance counselor at Lampeter-Strasburg High School in 1980.

Harold then served as a house principal of Manheim Township Senior High School for over 20 years until his retirement in 2006, after earning an ABD and his principal's certificate from Temple University.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lancaster for 14 years where he sang in the Chancel Choir and played trumpet in the Brass Choir.

He was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. He was a member of the Professional Educator Association's Phi Delta Kappa and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by his two children, son, H. Thomas Berlin Jr., husband of Lauren, Baltimore, Md., and daughter, Gretchen Berlin, London, England; stepdaughter, Amanda, wife of Mike Zatko; brother, David Berlin, husband of Rachel, Gibsonia, Pa.; and niece, Lauren Berlin.

Contributions in Harold's memory may be sent to Heartland Hospice Care of Reading and CurePSP, Foundation for PSP/CBD and Brain Related Diseases.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
