Classmate
Sheree Lanier (Cross)
Harold was my classmate at Donelson High and we shared Latin class and a math class (he had to "explain" lots of info to me! Ha). He was a truly SMART, COMPASSIONATE, SWEET guy as well as a LEADER in our class whom we admired and emulated. He is remembered warmly, fondly, and with a deep sense of loss from a large cloud of witnesses! We are praying for his loving family to feel the comfort, strength, and love of our Lord. Love, Sheree

Patsy, I am so sorry about Harold. You and I go back such a long way and I was so shocked to learn of his passing. You two were such a perfect couple. May your sweet memories help you thru this time and may God grant you the strength and peace you will need. He was a wonderful person. You are in my heart and thoughts.

We are shocked and saddened to learn of Harold's untimely death. Martha reminded me of his heroic catch, fully extended, of my throw wide of first base to put out the batter in an intramural softball game. We also well recall how he graciously helped us struggle to get my sofa bed--the longest and heaviest piece of furniture in a standard American household--up flight after stifling flight of stairs to our floor at the married students' apartments. I can also remember the sense of camaraderie that struck me one bleary-eyed night in 1975 at the Dallas VA Hospital when I came upon a clear and orderly Ophtho note from Harold as I reviewed the old chart on my new admission. We shall miss him.

Just wanted to drop a sympathy to ya'll. I met Dr. Hatcher at 20/20. He was my eye doc. He was a wonderful, caring man. I really thought the world of him. He followed behind Dr. Brown, thought I had seen His twin. I will surely be missed in our family.

Dearest Patsy, My heart goes out to you with my deepest condolences & love. I loved sitting by Harold in Mrs. Gentry's home room & always knew that he was "bigger than life" with his brilliance, tenderness, caring & loving spirit. Harold was simply splendid. I believe that he had my Mama for first grade. She had her Masters & had supervised student teachers at Radford College & Kutztown College before she gave Harold, Bo & maybe Ed Davis their solid start in school. I went to my first dance with Harold at the Masonic Hall downtown. (Minnie must have made him ask me but I treasure the memory).
Patsy, he sure did "hit the jackpot" when he landed you & he always seemed aglow with pride & joy & love for you. There truly are no words to sufficiently express my sympathy & love. May God's sweetest compassion, comfort & love be your constant companion now & always. Love, Bettie Harvey Shepherd

Patsy, may the happy memories from all of your friends past and present be a blessing at this time. I will always remember Harold asking me to go see the filming of the Davy Crockett movie in Nashville at age 9 or 10. Also it was great to see both of you at many of the reunions and discussing Pinot Noir varieties of the West Coast. Character does count...what a legacy to leave for the grandkids!

How I admire Harold Hatcher!! He was handsome, intelligent, athletic, and very caring (and it did not matter what "station" in life we were from) toward everyone! What a great wit and personality galore! Why without Harold I would NOT have passed Miss Whitley's Latin I or II class! (Thanks to his buddy "in crime" Ed Davis, too!) I thank him (and Patsy, too) for warm memories and look forward to seeing him again one day SOON! Love, Sheree Cross Lanier

Patsy - I'm so very sorry. I have such great memories of my teenage years with my "brother" Harold. Several years ago I wrote to him about a eye concern of mine and he very quickly responded with his warm assurance and concern. He always looked out for me and I always loved and admired him. I know you had a wonderful life with him and I'm so grateful he had you and his family to love and experience life with. May God hold you tightly in His comforting arms.

I knew Dr. Hatcher most of my life. He was a good friend and mentor to me. He was smart, funny and always a deep thinker. His voice was unmistakable and everyone knew his laugh. He seldom stayed on schedule, but was always interested in other people.
He was the first supporter that I had when I worked in athletic ministry after college. No one encouraged us more and he was always offering advice or ideas. Patsy, the kids and the grandchildren were always on his mind. Seldom did any conversation begin without a story or two about what the grandchildren were up to.
I miss Dr. Hatcher and can't believe he's no longer with us, but I appreciate the time that we had together and his investment in my life. My family and I are praying for the Hatchers and trust that the Lord will bring comfort in the midst of such a difficult time.

In 1992 when I was 19 I had a freak accident involving my eyes. (I was hit in the eye by a water balloon). Dr. Hatcher came to the ER and assured this very frightened girl that I was going to be ok. He was so attentive and took wonderful care of me. That visit in the ER was followed up by a weekend visit in his office and many other office visits. I will forever be grateful for his wonderful care during this event and all the years that followed. So sorry to hear of his passing. Prayers for the family.
