Obituary

Harold A. Hoffmann, 99, Downingtown, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2014 at his place of residence. He was a driver for the New York City Department of Hospitals for over 25 years, retiring in 1982, and previously worked for several years at T. E. Conklin Brass & Copper in Brooklyn. Harold was a Veteran of the US Army, having served as a power generator operator for antiaircraft artillery in Luzon, Philippines, and the Northern Solomon Islands in World War II. He was a devout Catholic, an altar server and communicant of St. John's Church, Lakehurst, and a 4th degree and charter member of the Knights of Columbus...
Harold A. Hoffmann, 99, Downingtown, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2014 at his place of residence. He was a driver for the New York City Department of Hospitals for over 25 years, retiring in 1982, and previously worked for several years at T. E. Conklin Brass & Copper in Brooklyn. Harold was a Veteran of the US Army, having served as a power generator operator for antiaircraft artillery in Luzon, Philippines, and the Northern Solomon Islands in World War II. He was a devout Catholic, an altar server and communicant of St. John's Church, Lakehurst, and a 4th degree and charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #9134. Harold was also a member of the Leisure Village West VFW Post 7904. He loved woodworking and fixing things along with fishing, golf and dancing. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he resided there until retiring to the Leisure Village West section of Manchester Twp. in 1982. He is predeceased by his wife of 42 years, the late Mary Hoffmann, in 1991. He is also predeceased by his siblings David Hoffmann, Herbert Hoffman, Marcella Stenger and John Hoffmann. Surviving are 18 nieces and nephews, his sister-in-law Margaret Hoffmann and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Wednesday, August 20 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 3010 Ridgeway Rd., Manchester. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 am at St. Johns RC Church, 619 Chestnut St. Lakehurst. Committal will follow at the Brig Gen Wm C Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Rd., Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request considering a donation to the VFW or to the Knights of Columbus in Harold's memory.
