Harold King Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 26, 2016.

Services for Harold Eugene King, 80, of Killeen, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen with Pastor Randy Binion, officiating. A private burial will be held later.

Mr. King died on September 24, 2016, at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas, with his daughter, Christine, at his side.

He was born on December 14, 1935, in Oilton, Oklahoma, where he was raised and educated as the oldest of four children. He loved his school, the "Home of the Oilton Panthers," where he attended yearly reunions; as one of only five remaining alumni for his graduating class at the most recent event.

Because he believed in God and service to his country, he volunteered, at age 21, to enlist in the United States Army; retiring after 20 years. He served world-wide as a Combat Medic, including two tours in Vietnam. After his time in the Army, he then worked for the state of Texas as a Corrections Officer and concurrently as a cement truck driver for a local company. He retired from both of these jobs after an additional 20 years in order to care for his wife.

Mr. King had lived, off and on, in the Killeen area, since 1968, where he raised his family with his wife. He was a member of the Reach Church in Killeen, where he enjoyed worshipping.

He was a member of both the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars; both based in Killeen.

Mr. King is survived by his daughter, Christine Payne and her husband, John, Sr.; his grandchildren, Elisabeth and John, Jr.; and his great-granddaughter, Emma; all of Killeen. Also, in Oklahoma, he is survived by his sister, Joyce, and her husband, Dale.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elisabeth, and their daughter, Sylvia. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn; brother, Leslie, known as Buster; and his parents, Sylvia and Burley King.

Mr. King was extremely generous to anyone in need; especially children's organizations. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, please donate instead to a local children's organization in his honor.

The family will receive visitors for a viewing from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen.
