Harry Grady "Pete" Hammock, Sr., 85, of Lynchburg, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018 at his residence. He was the loving husband of the late Joann Stinnette Hammock.
Born on April 5, 1932 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Timothy Reeves Hammock and the late Sue Campbell Hammock. Pete served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. Pete was a member of the Lynchburg Art Club, where he referred to himself as "starving" artist. After retirement, you could find Pete at Famous Anthony's for breakfast and then at the mall where he would sit and talk with his friends. He also enjoyed his monthly meetings with other retirees from the postal service at Famous Anthony's. Pete enjoyed going to the coast in NC with his sons and staying with his cousins, David and Dick Miller, where he would sit on the porch watching everyone fish and take in the coastal scenery.
Left to cherish his memories are his sons, Harry Grady Hammock, Jr. and David Lee Hammock; three grandchildren, Christopher Hammock and wife Caitlin, Emily Hammock, and Nicholas Hammock; one great granddaughter, Randi Elizabeth Grace Hammock; special long-time friend for over 50 years, Aubrey Booth; close friend, Rebecca Revis and the staff at Famous Anthony's and numerous other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Carlton Duck officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16.
