Harry W. Berger, 91, died quietly in his home at Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls on Saturday, February 1. He was born in New York City as the youngest child of Sophie and David Berger. He was married for 67 years to the love of his life, Evelyn "Evy" Ledwitz Berger of Long Branch, NJ. Evelyn passed away in 2009. Harry W. Berger, 91, died quietly in his home at Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls on Saturday, February 1. He was born in New York City as the youngest child of Sophie and David Berger. He was married for 67 years to the love of his life, Evelyn "Evy" Ledwitz Berger of Long Branch, NJ. Evelyn passed away in 2009. Together, Harry and Evy lived in Ocean Township where they raised three children: Robin, Richard, and Alan, whom they cherished and by whom they were loved unconditionally. Harry and Evy traveled around the country and the world, enjoying the gifts of happy, healthy, and long lived lives, as well as countless friends, most of whom were considered part of their extended family.

After graduating from Asbury Park High School in 1940, Harry attended Temple University, but left to enlist in the armed services during World War II. After the war, Harry became an agent, and later a General Agent for the New England Life Insurance Company in Asbury Park, where he proudly remained until his retirement in 1986. Harry was active in his community throughout his life, serving as president of the Joseph Finkel Lodge of the B'nai B'rith, and president of Temple Beth Miriam synagogue in Elberon, as well as on the Board of Directors of Hollywood Golf Club, where he played golf and cards, and remained a member for over 35 years.

He is predeceased by his wife Evelyn Berger, his parents David and Sophie Berger, his sister Mollie Goldman, sister-in-law, Rita Epstein, brothers-in-law, Walter Jonas, Bill Epstein, and Harold Seldin. He is survived by a daughter, Robin Berger of Gloucester, Massachusetts, his two sons, Richard Berger and his wife Cynthia, and Alan Berger and his wife Karen. He also leaves three grandchildren: Judson Berger and his wife Sangeetha, Meghan Berger, and Tatiana Matthews, a sister, Maida Carson, a sister-in-law, Bernice Seldin, and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 3 at Temple Beth Miriam, 180 Lincoln Avenue, Elberon, followed by burial services at Temple Beth Miriam Memorial Park in Neptune. The family will be sitting Shiva following burial at the home of Karen and Alan Berger, West Allenhurst. Minyan will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday evening. Friends and relatives are welcome.
