Obituary

Harry Forbes died November 25, 2012 at the age of 93, and we rejoice that he is alive today with his heavenly Father. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Emma Forbes; brother and sister-in-law, Waldo and Beulah Forbes; his first wife of 28 years, Betty Forbes; and his second wife of 31 years, Nancy Forbes. Funeral services will be held at Hampton Vaughan Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Reverend Rod Payne. Burial with full military honors will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Michele Forbes and his daughter and son-in-law Valorie and Don Massey. ...
Harry Forbes died November 25, 2012 at the age of 93, and we rejoice that he is alive today with his heavenly Father. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Emma Forbes; brother and sister-in-law, Waldo and Beulah Forbes; his first wife of 28 years, Betty Forbes; and his second wife of 31 years, Nancy Forbes.

Funeral services will be held at Hampton Vaughan Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Reverend Rod Payne. Burial with full military honors will follow at Crestview Memorial Park.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Michele Forbes and his daughter and son-in-law Valorie and Don Massey. The lights of his life were his four granddaughters, Katie Massey, Kelly Peterson and husband Miles, Megan Forbes, and Meredith Forbes. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Harry was born on a farm near Waxahachie, Texas on October 11, 1919. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1940 where he was in the Corps of Cadets Calvary. He then entered WWII as a 2nd Lieutenant where he served in North Africa, Italy, and France. He continued to serve his country in the Army Reserves for many years until he retired as a U.S. Army Colonel. As a young man he worked on the family farm with his brother, Waldo, until he began work with the Federal Land Bank. He was the manager of the Federal Land Bank in Wichita Falls for many years until he retired in 1981. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls and later the First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth for many years. He served the church in different leadership capacities. He was also a member of the Lion's Club.

Visitation will be held 6:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.

The family wishes to thank the House of Hope and Hospice of Wichita Falls for their compassionate care of our father during the last days of his life.
