Obituary

Harry 'Loyd' Stewart of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away at home Saturday morning, June 16th at 8:00 AM, with the love of his life, and wife of 60 years, Leona, by his side, as they were sharing their last earthly conversation together in the garden, doing what they loved to do. Born December 21, 1931 in Krotz Springs, LA, he moved with his Mother and Dad and younger brother to Baton Rouge in 1940 so his father could go to work at Ethyl Corporation. He was a five-sport athlete at Istrouma High School, and was a defensive captain on Istrouma High School's first State Championship team of 1950. While serving in the National Guard Reserves, he followed in his father's footsteps and went to work for Ethyl Corporation in 1951. After 43 years of service, he retired from Ethyl to spend his golden years doing what he loved most, being with his family. God gave him the most overwhelming capacity to love, a compassion for his family, and a joy and peace in his hope of Christs promise of salvation, that put smiles on everyone's face when in his company. He lived that hope and joy through the songs he sang, loudly and proudly, the old hymns of faith, a witness of light to the world and everyone who knew him. The perpetual 'practical joker', everyone who saw him ... smiled. He was singing praise to his Lord and Savior, when he breathed his last breath here on this earth and was in mid-verse when he saw the face of Jesus as he breathed his first in Heaven. He truly is the 'World's Greatest Dad'. Happy Father's Day Daddy! Survived by his wife, Leona Ortis Stewart, daughters Cindy Stewart McCormick and husband Ty McCormick, Christy Stewart Simmons and husband Lance Simmons, and son Gary Loyd Stewart and wife Kristy Stewart; 8 grandchildren, 4 greatgrandchildren, his aunt, Ann Devillier Riffel and husband Glen "Buddy' Riffel, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his daughter, Sheryl Lynn Stewatt, his parents, Joseph and Evelyn Stewart, and his brother, Philip Stewart. Pallbearers will be Lawrence 'Bub' Courville, Ken Courville, Jim Parker, Andy Parker, Philip "P-Ty" Stewart, Zachary Stewart, Tanner McCormick and Carson Simmons. Visiation will be at Istrouma Baptist Church, 10500 Sam Rushing Road, on Tuesday, June 19, from 9 a.m. until services at noon, conducted by the Rev. Jeff Guin.
