Hazel Marie Rossignol Barras Gustafson passed away on Monday, September 11, 2017 at the age of 90. She was the beloved wife of the late Morris E. Barras Sr., and by previous marriage, Carl S. Gustafson. Loving mother of Morris E. Barras Jr. (Debbiejoe). Daughter of the late Ernest and Lena Weise Rossignol. Sister of the late George Muller and Olga Schnapp. Proud grandmother of Tiffany B. Knight (Timothy) and Rebecca L. Barras. Great grandmother of Delaney Knight and Leighton Knight. She is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Hazel was born in New Orleans, LA and resided in Chalmette, LA for the past 59 years. She truly enjoyed life through her trips to the casino, travelling, photography, cooking some of the best gumbo, and caring for nearly all the stray animals in a 2-mile radius. She found pleasure in the details of everyday life, caring deeply for her family and friends and spoiling her grandchildren. She was well loved and will be deeply missed by all who were touched by her love, laughter, kindness and compassion.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR CHURCH, 2320 Paris Rd, Chalmette, LA on Saturday, September 16th from 11:00AM – 1:00PM, followed by a Funeral Mass in Hazel’s memory beginning at 1:00PM. She will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
