Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 4, 2011.

Hector Joseph Barron, Sr., 76 of Fairmont City, Illinois, born April 18, 1935 in East St. Louis, Illinois passed from this life on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Hector was the founder of Barron and Associates in Collinsville, Illinois and was a member of the Board of Directors of Fine Labs Inc. in Piedmont, Missouri. He was an active member of the Hispanic Community and received numerous awards for his contributions, the most recent being in April of this year the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan St. Louis, having served that organization two years as president and two years as chairman. Hector's dedication as an accountant and tax preparer was rewarded by the great respect that was afforded by the multiple generations of his clients. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and member of the American Legion Post 961, Fairmont City, Illinois. Mr. Barron enjoyed the outdoors, a good Cardinals game, but most of all he enjoyed a good cigar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Antelmo and Ramona, nee Riviera, Barron, a son Hector J. Barron Jr., and his first wife Doris Hemken, nee Rogers.

Surviving are his children, Michael (Cindy) Barron, of Shiloh, Illinois, Mona (Andrew) Maupin of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Margaret Barron of Fairmont City, Illinois, Michelle (Ernest) Newton of Brea, Kentucky, and Krista (Richard) Daniels of Granite City, Illinois, ten grandchildren, Brandon, Dustin, Melissa (Andy), Conrad, Elizabeth, Barron, Amanda, Jacob, and Hector. two great grandchildren, Hunter and Landon, two brothers, Carlos (Shirley) Barron of Belleville, Illinois and Joseph (Mary Lou) Barron of Granite City, Illinois, three sisters, Marie Dolores Johnson of Fairmont City, Illinois, Elvira Barron of Belleville, Illinois, and Dianna Barron of Collinsville, his second wife, Dorothy Barron, nee Sikora, of Granite City, Illinois, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

The family would like to thank Eileen for all her help.

Dear Krista,

I am so sorry for your loss. I never actually met you, but I heard a lot about you years ago when I worked with your lovely mother at Scherck,Stein & Franc. Your father used to prepare taxes for my late brother, Bob, who always had wonderful things to say about your father. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Hector was truly a special man. Growing up he was one of my fathers closest childhood friends. As a little boy many of my fondest memories growing up were spent playing with the Barron kids. Hector and Doris were my bother Mikeiel's Godparents.

Sadly our families drifted apart following the death of your brother Joey and later my father. Which brings me to a very special story of who Hector was and how he felt about friendships.

It was 1995 and nearly 20 years had passed since I had spoken to Hector. I was starting a business and was in need of tax advice I had hired and fired several costly accountants who seemed to be more interested in billing me than in setting up my business. One day I passed Hectors office in Collinsville and decide to call him. When I got back to my office I picked up the phone and made the call. When Hector answered the other end and I told him who I was he replied with a soft compassionate "Hello old Friend"

Not only did he help me set up the business but he referred several clients to me.

To me that story not only embodies Hector's life but it embodies a time and place that is sadly fading. Those of us from Fairmont City know what I am speaking of.

The world is a sadder place today without you Hector but all of us are richer for having you as part of our lives. You touched us all deeply and will be missed by all.
