Cheaturm, Helen Jean 'Jeannie', 95, passed away peacefully Sat. morning, March 22nd with her three sons by her side. She was born in Wichita on Feb. 8, 1919, graduated from Kingman High School in 1937. Attended Wichita Business College and worked for a Kingman bank until she married Clyde R. Cheatum on Sept. 1, 1941. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde in 1973, her mother Zelma (Staley) Gillen and father Harry Gillen. She is survived by her 3 sons, Roger (Adel) Cheatum of Topeka, Gary (Viki) Cheatum of Wichita and Alan (Kathy) Cheatum of Garden City as well as 2 Grandchildren, Laurie (Chris) Swan, David Cheatum (Lisa) and 6 great grandchildren all of Garden City. Starting in 1941, they built a successful business in Wichita until it was sold in 1967. Family and friends were her life. Her home was always open to others from the early years with PTA, Cub Scouts and neighborhood gatherings to later years when many times she had relatives or friends living with her for extended periods. She was a member of Downtown Lions Club and other organizations. She loved travel and was an avid member of the ACAP traveling group in Wichita. She also traveled in Mexico, SE Asia, Europe and the Middle East. One of her great joys was being a season ticket holder of the WSU Shocker basketball during the last 4 decades of her life. Always fun to be around with a great sense of humor even until her final days. She passed as gracefully as she lived. Service at Resthaven Mortuary, Saturday, March 29 at 1:00 P.M. Immediately following the service there will be a reception at Resthaven. A private burial will be later at Lerado Cemetery in Reno County.

Arrangements under the direction of Resthaven Mortuary, Wichita, KS.
