Helen Louise "Lee" Heinen-Seidel,known to all of us as "Lee," was born on the 28th of November 1914, to Reverend Inman & Beatrice Lee. She past away on Friday, the 29th of August 2014, in Houston, at the age of 99. Lee grew up in Southern Illinois, where her father was a Baptist pastor. She attended Stephens College and graduated from the University of Illinois School of Music. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and remained an active part of her sorority's alumni association throughout her life. Helen Louise "Lee" Heinen-Seidel,known to all of us as "Lee," was born on the 28th of November 1914, to Reverend Inman & Beatrice Lee. She past away on Friday, the 29th of August 2014, in Houston, at the age of 99.
Lee grew up in Southern Illinois, where her father was a Baptist pastor. She attended Stephens College and graduated from the University of Illinois School of Music. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and remained an active part of her sorority's alumni association throughout her life. In 1937, one year after her graduation, Lee married Larry Heinen. Three years later, they moved to Houston, where their two children, Marty and Ron were born.
Lee devoted her life to her family, her church, the needs of others, and her lifelong love of music. She was a member of River Oaks Baptist Church; an active member of the Gleamers Bible Study Class and Women on Mission, a volunteer at Memorial-Hermann Hospital for 50 years, in addition to volunteering with the Houston Baptist University Auxiliary and Guild. Lee was a 65-year member, and past president of the "Tuesday Musical Club," a member of the Houston Grand Opera Guild and the Houston Symphony League.
Lee was preceded in death by her first husband of 54 years, Larry Heinen; her second husband of eight years, Kurt Seidel; and her son-in-law, John Engvall, Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Marty Engvall, and her son, Ron Heinen; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, along with all the loving members of the Seidel family.
A memorial service celebrating her life is to be conducted at four o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 1st of September, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, following a reception in the chapel which is to commence at three o'clock.
Prior to the memorial service the family will have gathered for a private interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
