Mrs. Helen Rochelle Moose Smith, 89, of Statesville, died Sunday, May 25th at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Iredell County on April 28, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Shelley King Moose and Elma Redmond Moose. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Lee Moose. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, chocolate, yard work, reading, gardening, playing bridge, traveling and working in the nursery at church. She was a very social person, never meeting a stranger and modeled for a clothing store in Mooresville. She was known for her generous spirit. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Statesville. Mrs. Helen Rochelle Moose Smith, 89, of Statesville, died Sunday, May 25th at the Gordon Hospice House.
Born in Iredell County on April 28, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Shelley King Moose and Elma Redmond Moose. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Lee Moose. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, chocolate, yard work, reading, gardening, playing bridge, traveling and working in the nursery at church. She was a very social person, never meeting a stranger and modeled for a clothing store in Mooresville. She was known for her generous spirit. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Statesville. She was retired from I Care, Inc.
On February 28, 1947, she married Mr. Vance Smith, Jr. who died on November 19, 1989.
Survivors include a son, Vance Michael Smith of Mooresville; a daughter, Shelley Danon of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Billie Sue Moose of Statesville and three grandchildren, Brian Michael Smith, Kendal Elaine Smith and Brittney Nichole Danon.
Memorial Service celebrating Mrs. Smith's life will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with Dr. Jack Causey officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
