Henrietta Green Leon passed peacefully to her new life on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 in Sedona, Arizona. She was 88 years of age.
Henrietta was born in Yuma on January 9, 1929, the first of twins, to James Cruz and Victoria Martinez Green. Henrietta attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School and was a proud Yuma High Criminal, Class of 1948. Her early working life was highlighted by ushering at the Yuma Theater, clerking at McCallum's Drug Store and was employed at APS and the MCAS commissary.
While working at the drug store Henrietta met her future husband Anthony Leon of Tucson. They were married "on the hottest day in July" in 1948, had five children together and enjoyed 54 years of marriage until Tony's death in 2002. After her children were all in school, Henrietta became an interpreter for the deaf, a passion inspired by Tony's brother Gilbert and his family. Her devotion to family and friends was reflected in all she did. Her legacy lives on in her children Cynthia Leon of Yuma, Stephen (Jacalyn) Leon of Camp Verde, Marian Leon of San Francisco, Theresa Leon of Phoenix and Lorraine (Jim) Acheson of Camp Verde. She is also survived by grandchildren Caroline (Loren) Hood, Anthony Acheson, Henry Rivera, and Joseph Walters, great grand daughter Olivia Hood, sister-in-law Elaine "Jinx" Green, numerous nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony S. Leon, her parents James and Victoria Green, siblings James "Moto" Green, Alice G. Lorona, twin brother Henry Green and grandson Matthew Walters.
Visitation will be at Johnson's Mortuary on Thursday, June 22nd, from 5p.m. to 8p.m. Rosary will be recited at 7p.m. A Mass of Celebration will be at 10:00a.m. on Friday, June 23rd at Immaculate Conception Church. Pallbearers will be Henry D. Green, James Del Green, Rex Green, Jim Acheson, Timothy Murphy and Gilbert Dana Rivera. Internment will be private.
The family wants to extend "muchisimas gracias" to Lilia Ramirez and Rosa Rodriguez for their compassionate care of our mother.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Henrietta's name to Hospice of Yuma, 1824 S. 8th Avenue, Yuma, AZ 85364 and/or Hospice of the Pines, 13207 East State Route 169 Suite A, Dewey, AZ 86327.

Dear Cindy, My sincerest condolences at the loss of your Mom. I remember the smile on your face as you talked about her. Please have that same smile as friends and family share their memories of her and how she impacted their lives. As you know, God builds those memories and stores them in your heart so that she will always be with you. Good thoughts and many prayers for you and your family. Sorry I cannot attend her services because I just had knee replacement surgery. Sincerely,
