Henry Micou Sneed, age 83, died at Duke Raleigh Community Hospital Monday, December 3, 2012 after several years of declining health. His wife and family were by his side. He is survived by his wife Cecilia Young Sneed; son, Michael and wife Marizol of Raleigh; daughter, Anne Kelson and husband Russell of Walnut Hill, FL; stepdaughters, Margaret D. Sneed of Raleigh and Elizabeth D. Van Noordt and husband Scott of Caswell Beach; granddaughter, Annabelle Sneed, of Raleigh; grandsons, Robert Byrd of Washington, DC and William Byrd of Raleigh; sisters, Barbara Sneed Newton of Chapel Hill, Phyllis Sneed Vermilyea of Clemmons; brother ,...
Henry Micou Sneed, age 83, died at Duke Raleigh Community Hospital Monday, December 3, 2012 after several years of declining health. His wife and family were by his side. He is survived by his wife Cecilia Young Sneed; son, Michael and wife Marizol of Raleigh; daughter, Anne Kelson and husband Russell of Walnut Hill, FL; stepdaughters, Margaret D. Sneed of Raleigh and Elizabeth D. Van Noordt and husband Scott of Caswell Beach; granddaughter, Annabelle Sneed, of Raleigh; grandsons, Robert Byrd of Washington, DC and William Byrd of Raleigh; sisters, Barbara Sneed Newton of Chapel Hill, Phyllis Sneed Vermilyea of Clemmons; brother , Albert Sneed and wife Jean of Naples, FL. He was predeceased by his brothers Lester, Edgar and his sister Mary Voss. Henry also leaves numerous nieces and nephews for whom he was a father figure.

Born in Henderson to Lester Sneed Sr. and Dora Mangels Sneed, his family relocated to Raleigh soon after Henry's birth. He enjoyed relating events and memories from his early years in Raleigh such as selling newspapers at Five Points the day WWII ended and swimming at Lassiter Mill Pond on summer afternoons. Henry graduated from Cathedral Latin High School in 1947. After a year of college at NC State he enlisted in the US Marines where he served as a small weapons expert. After his service, he entered the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated in 1952 with a degree in Business Administration.His career included positions at Phillips Petroleum and NC Products. Henry also had many other business ventures including land development. In 1970, he developed his family farm off Creedmoor Road into the Heritage Point Subdivision.

Henry was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in North Raleigh. He was involved in his community as a member of the North Carolina Home Builders Association, Jaycees, and the Ole Raleigh Boys Club. Rest and relaxation for Henry included quail and dove hunting, deep sea fishing and family gatherings at the coast. He enjoyed preparing smoked turkeys and soft shell crabs. He will be remembered by his friends and business associates for barbecues at his" Sap Rising Party" on the family farm. Henry was a dedicated son, father, husband, uncle, grandfather and friend to all that knew him. His warm and cheerful personality will be missed by all.

The family wishes to thank Rufus Short, Pat Jackson and Tina Cotton for their care and support during his illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 9:30am at Sacred Heart Cathedral in downtown Raleigh. The family will receive friends from 11:00am-1:00pm at the home on 1320 Kershaw Drive, Raleigh.
