Herbert "Bert" Bruce Hutchinson, born to A.T. "Hutch" Hutchinson and Marion (Garvin) Hutchinson on June 27, 1931, in Seattle, Washington, peacefully passed away in his home in Stanwood, Washington on March 3, 2015.
Bert was the youngest of three brothers, Robert "Bob" and Richard "Dick". His Grandmother, Jenny (Carr) Hutchinson introduced him to the gospel and Jesus Christ as an infant and he accepted Christ in his life around the age of five. He recognized God's love in his family and friends throughout his life.
Bert joined the Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War. While fighting in Korea he was severely wounded when his bunker was hit by a mortar. Bert felt blessed by God's love as his life was spared. He later graduated from the University of Washington with a B.A. in Business.
Bert married Lorraine Payette on July 12, 1952 in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. They had two daughters, Susan (Lamoree) born on January 17, 1955 and Cindy (Iverson) born on April 19, 1957. Lorraine passed away on July 28, 1957 as a result of an aneurism which left her in a coma for nearly a month. Bert was comforted, and his faith in Jesus was confirmed, when she regained consciousness just long enough to tell her husband "Jesus has come for me."
The following March Bert met Mary (Gloyd) Doty, a widowed mother of two boys, Jim and Dave, who were eight and six at the time. They were married on June 14, 1958 in Seattle, Washington and quickly became a family of six as Bert and Mary whole heartedly adopted each other's children.
During a portion of Bert's career, he worked for a company that was a pioneer in new concrete technology and felt fortunate to be a part of major changes that occurred within the concrete construction industry.
Bert and Mary spent 56 wonderful years together growing in their love for each other and for their Savior. An avid golfer, he also spent many hours on the golf course with friends and family. He later turned his love for the outdoors into hiking in the badlands of California and on the shores of the Pacific Northwest. However, Bert's greatest love was for his Father in Heaven and he demonstrated this by contributing many hours to his church as a lay person.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bob. He is survived by his wife, Mary, his two daughters, two sons, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. His family is grateful for the legacy of love and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ that Bert has left with them.
Bert and Mary have spent the last five years living in the Warm Beach Christian Community where he was taught to look forward to heaven as everyone within the community embraced and shared God's love with them.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Warm Beach Senior Community in the Beachwood Lounge, from 2pm to 5pm (3pm service) on Sunday, March 8, 2015. 20420 Marine Drive, Stanwood, WA 98292.
