Obituary

   Mapleton, IL – Herbert J. Aper, 69, of Mapleton passed away at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.    He was born Dec. 30, 1943 in Lincoln, IL to Julius and Tryphena Aper.  He married Eileen Lofthouse in Bartonville on Sept. 6, 2003.  She survives.     Also surviving are 2 daughters, Julie (Tom) Miller of Joliet, IL, Janelle Aper of Bartonville; 3 step-sons, John (Tammy) Lofthouse of Peoria, Steven (Teresa) Lofthouse of Washington, IL, Michael Lofthouse of Peoria; 2 sisters, Judy (Leroy) McCray of Lincoln, IL, Joyce Slifer of Mode,...

   Mapleton, IL – Herbert J. Aper, 69, of Mapleton passed away at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

   He was born Dec. 30, 1943 in Lincoln, IL to Julius and Tryphena Aper.  He married Eileen Lofthouse in Bartonville on Sept. 6, 2003.  She survives. 

   Also surviving are 2 daughters, Julie (Tom) Miller of Joliet, IL, Janelle Aper of Bartonville; 3 step-sons, John (Tammy) Lofthouse of Peoria, Steven (Teresa) Lofthouse of Washington, IL, Michael Lofthouse of Peoria; 2 sisters, Judy (Leroy) McCray of Lincoln, IL, Joyce Slifer of Mode, IL; 2 special granddaughters, Kristin (Jay) Lofthouse –Aquart, Tricia (Andy) Lofthouse-Meister; granddaughter, Stephenny (Adam) Lofthouse-Chavers; 2 grandsons, Jacob Lofthouse, Zac Lofthouse; great-grandson, Abram Chavers; and special sister in law, Susan Stone.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Chuck Lofthouse; sister, Janice Curry.

   Herbert graduated from Lincoln High School and went thru the Machine Apprenticeship with Caterpillar Inc.  He was transferred to Dyersberg, TN to help open a new plant where he met Eileen, his one true love.  He retired from Caterpillar as a quality control supervisor after 45 years of service.

   He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Bartonville where he was active in the Choir, was President of the Cemetery Board, and served on the Church Council.  He was well known in the St. Ann Catholic Church family in Peoria, volunteering for many activities there and considered Fr. Terry Cassidy and Sister Judith Ann close friends.

   Herbert was also a member of the Farmington Sportsmen’s Club.

   Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church in Bartonville with Rev. Michael Jones officiating.  Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel in Bartonville with further visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church.  Burial will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. 

   Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or St. Ann Catholic Church.  Online condolences may be made at www.davison-fulton-bartonvillechapel.com.
